Blunted in the Bomb Shelter is one of the many projects that Madlib has undertaken rather successfully. This is a mix CD that skanks and trips through the Trojan back catalogue. There are 45 tracks that make up the 64 minutes of this CD. Madlib claims that this mix was recorded in his basement bomb shelter, and who are we to disbelieve him?

Volume 2: Best Of The Remixes & Megamixes (1990-1992)
Culled from the 'Reconstruction' tape series, these tracks showcase Shadow's blitzkrieg cut-and-paste style utilizing the best music of the era. Everyone from Eric B & Rakim to Cutty Ranks and even TKA receive the Shadow treatment, to varied and remarkable effect. Chrome Children is a co-production between Stones Throw Records and Adult Swim. The CD & DVD set, released on October 3, 2006, includes songs from Oh No, J Dilla, Madlib, and other Stones Throw artists. It also includes footage from a hip-hop concert headlined by MF DOOM and Madlib on DVD. The concert was filmed by Adult Swim at the 2006 SXSW festival in Austin, TX.
A sequel, Chrome Children Vol. 2, was released in digital format January 29, 2007. The CD version was later released.

The Ecstatic is the fourth solo album from New York MC, Mos Def.

In live shows Mos Def performed new songs from the album before its release. Crowds had heard tracks produced by Madlib and Oh No (Madlib’s younger brother). The album features collaborations with Slick Rick, Talib Kweli and Georgia Anne Muldrow, as well as production by Mr. Flash and the late J Dilla.The first single off the album is 'Life in Marvelous Times', the second single is 'Quiet Dog Bite Hard', and the third single is 'Casa Bey'. The song 'Casa Bey' was recently made into an official music video that was released via Mos Def's Myspace page. The album cover is taken from Charles Burnett's 1977 film, Killer of Sheep.

The Ecstatic debuted at #2 in mp3-format album sales on Amazon.com, and #9 on the Billboard 200, but fell to #29 in its second week. On June 18, 2009, Mos Def stated that he will start selling the album by T-shirts sometime in July 2009 with a code on the tag, which will be used to download off the Internet for free.

Illadelph Halflife, released in 1996, is the third full length album from The Roots. In 1998, the album was selected as one of The Source's 100 Best Rap Albums. The album received various other awards. In 2006 the album was selected as one of Hip-Hop Connection's 100 Best Rap Albums from 1995 to 2005, and is held as one of the best albums by The Roots by many fans.

The album itself is the closest The Roots would get to straight up, simple East Coast hip-hop. Whereas on their first two albums The Roots had a loose, jam session feel to their music, they seemed much more focused on Illadelph Halflife, working hard to give the listener stronger hooks to focus on, one of the main criticisms of the first two albums.

Malik B stated in an interview on Okayplayer.com that the group was in depression during the recording of the album due to it being their second major label album feeling the need to outdo the other two and to escape the sophomore jinx.
The album's hit single "What They Do" featured the group running through many rap video clichés. In 2008 "What They Do" was ranked number 64 on VH1's 100 Greatest Songs of Hip Hop.

Beck's debut, Mellow Gold, was a glorious sampler of different musical styles, careening from lo-fi hip-hop to folk, moving back through garage rock and arty noise. It was an impressive album, but the parts didn't necessarily stick together. The two albums that followed within months of Mellow Gold -- Stereopathetic Soul Manure and One Foot in the Grave -- were specialist releases that disproved the idea that Beck was simply a one-hit wonder. But Odelay, the much-delayed proper follow-up to Mellow Gold, proves the depth and scope of his talents. Odelay fuses the disparate strands of Beck's music -- folk, country, hip-hop, rock & roll, blues, jazz, easy listening, rap, pop -- into one dense sonic collage. Songs frequently morph from one genre to another, seemingly unrelated genre -- bursts of noise give way to country songs with hip-hop beats, easy listening melodies transform into a weird fusion of pop, jazz, and cinematic strings; it's genre-defying music that refuses to see boundaries.

All of the songs on Odelay are rooted in simple forms -- whether it's blues ("Devil's Haircut"), country ("Lord Only Knows," "Sissyneck"), soul ("Hotwax"), folk ("Ramshackle"), or rap ("High 5 [Rock the Catskills]," "Where It's At") -- but they twist the conventions of the genre. "Born like this/ Into this/ As the chalk faces smile/ As Mrs Death laughs/ As the elevators break/ As political landscapes dissolve." The first album from Daniel Dumile's latest pseudonym takes its name from Charles Bukowski's poem Dinosauria, We, whose opening lines are sampled here on the B-movie apocalypse of Cellz. The late writer's tale of "hospitals which are so expensive it's cheaper to die... a country where the jails are full and the madhouses closed" functions both as a prophesy of doom and a shadow biography of DOOM.

Although Born Like This is his first album in four years, little has changed. "Same guy, same disguise, sick aim, eye stare," as he says on Rap Ambush, a journey into the heart of a metaphorical insurgent hurling RPGs ("rhyme-propelled grenades"). He still likes to make life difficult. Choruses are a long-standing no-go, tracks veer off at right angles or skid abruptly to a halt. Guests Raekwon and Ghostface are chosen not for their pulling power, but their knack for submerging identity beneath an assumed character. Production duties are mostly split between DOOM and Jake One, fashioning a sound ripe with piercing organs and violins pitched around the point where Frankenstein's monster hauls himself out of his surgical straps.

After a period of workaholism that threatened overkill, followed by a period of hibernation, Born Like This finds DOOM back to his scalpel-tongued, scatter-mouthed best. KMD couldn't have ended worse; Daniel Dumile's renaissance could scarcely have gone better. As the closing lines of Dinosauria, We have it: "Born out of that/ The sun still hidden there/ Awaiting the next chapter."

"The World Is Yours" is the third single from rapper Nas' debut album Illmatic, released a month after the album. The song was produced by Pete Rock—who also sings the song's chorus—and it samples "I Love Music" by Ahmad Jamal and "It's Yours" by T La Rock. A remix of the song was produced by Q-Tip featuring similar but new lyrics; both it and the original were released by Columbia Records as singles, and promoted with music videos. It reached #13 on the Hot Rap Singles chart in 1994 and is now lauded as one of Nas' best tracks.

The song and the video play homage to Scarface. In which the title is about the lead character Tony Montana seeing a blimp that says "The World Is Yours" and the video is a scene from the movie where Tony gets in to a big argument with his wife and then shortly later his best friend.

Notorious is the soundtrack to the 2009 biopic film Notorious based on rapper The Notorious B.I.G. / Biggie Smalls. It features mostly his previously heard songs, inclusively the ones harder to find such as "Party and Bullshit" and "One More Chance (Remix)".

It includes two original songs, "Brooklyn Go Hard" which is also from Jay-Z's album The Blueprint 3 and a tribute to Biggie by Jadakiss and widow Faith Evans called "Letter To B.I.G.", as well as three unreleased demos by Biggie and a song with his son CJ.

I Have one thing to say and one reason why i had to get this "Party And Bullshit". This is a decent complication and a great introduction if your new to The Notorious B.I.G and no doubt far better than the pathetic excuse of a greatest released in 2007.

Much like many of the later Wu-Tang albums, Supreme Clientele is not produced entirely by The RZA. He only composed four tracks, while other lesser known producers contributed the remaining beats. However RZA did oversee the overall production and mixing of the songs and skits on the album, being listed as executive producer along with Ghostface. The album's acclaim is notable considering that most of the Wu-Tang's second solo releases were considered disappointments, while several critics consider Supreme Clientele to be superior to Ghostface's debut Ironman.

The album contained a diss toward then-up-and-coming 50 Cent. In the "Clyde Smith" skit Wu-tang member Raekwon, with the use of voice distortion, plays the role of a man named Clyde Smith. Clyde Smith addresses 50 Cent and his 1999 song "How to Rob," in which 50 Cent jokingly rhymes about how he'll rob many popular music artists, including RZA, Raekwon, and Ghostface. The skit drew a response from 50 Cent, who would later dis Wu-tang in an underground mixtape freestyle.

As, one of the greatest solo Wu-Tang efforts, Ghostface would continue to make albums to some acclaim, but Supreme Clientele was considered the best of his works. The RZA's production was highly praised and the lyrical ability of Ghostface at the time was very impressive.

Large Professor still keeps busy DJing and producing, and this year sees the release of a new album, Main Source.

Anybody that remembers the clanging sleigh bells of "Halftime" and the glorious saxophone over synths from "It Ain't Hard to Tell" knows that Large Professor is capable of fantastic beats, and Main Source confirms that right off the bat. "The Entrance," starting with a scrambled-up mélange of noise, morphs into a stinging guitar solo over thumping drums, with a well-delivered rap by Large Professor making for a fantastic start to the proceedings.

Elsewhere, "Pump Ya Fist" boasts energetic horns, R&B shouts, and wicked scratching, "Ru Dope" gives Jeru Tha Damaja a jazzy, mellow flavor to wrap one quick verse around, and album closer "The Hardest" sounds like something straight out of the mid-90s hip-hop heyday, with buzzing, heavy bass and mellow synth lines rolling in and out. The entire album has a laid-back vibe throughout, with Large Professor showing off his talent like a painter using his entire palette; the beats sound like the same man made them, but they don't sound the same.

When the best rapper/producer in hip-hop history spends almost a decade without a record on the shelves (despite his best efforts), it has to be considered a crime — if not a tragedy. Difficult to tell, though, is why Q-Tip was bounced to five different labels within six years. He never pronounced himself angry about the situation, saying only that he continued to work, reportedly recording three full albums that were never released.

His long-awaited return on The Renaissance is no disappointment, offering more of the same understated, aqueous grooves and fluid rapping that the Abstract Poetic has built his peerless career on. Although it has a few more message songs than his dance-heavy debut from 1999 (Amplified), many of these tracks are club grooves painted with the same production touches as ten years earlier; his work is still excellent 20 years after his career began, Some of the songs are built with a live group (including guitarist Kurt Rosenwinkel).

One thing is for sure: Q-Tip is still a master of pacing and atmosphere, structuring the first half of the record so smoothly that listeners may not notice a transition until the sixth track, "We Fight/We Love," which contrasts the perspective of a man in the middle of war with a woman left alone. Sounding like a latter-day Midnight Marauders and The Love Movement, and very similar to the unreleased Kamaal the Abstract, The Renaissance is a worthy comeback for the man who's arguably done more to make hip-hop enjoyable than any other figure.

Johnny Jackson better-known in the music industry as Johnny "J", was a multi-platinum songwriter, music producer & rapper who was perhaps best known for his production on Tupac Shakur's albums All Eyez on Me and Me Against the World. He was born in Juárez, Mexico, in 1969 and raised in South Central Los Angeles. Johnny "J" was co-owner and CEO of Klock Work Entertainment.

According to his own MySpace page, Johnny J died on October 3, 2008 at the age of 39. While serving a sentence for DWI in the Twin Towers Correctional Facility located in Los Angeles, California, he allegedly jumped off an upper tier of the prison in an apparent suicide.

The work that guys like Premo, Pete Rock, LP, L.E.S. and Q-Tip put in on this record set it apart from most. It oozes with soul and refined beat-craftsmanship. The prevalent genre on this set is jazz, and rightfully so: Nas' pops is a jazz musician and -- understandably so -- must have affected his musical preferences and beat choices for his debut record. Original tracks by The Gap Band, Joe Chambers and The Heath Brothers stand out, most definitely; but all in all, this set is just a great playlist to kick back and vibe to.

It's Funky Enough" was the first single by The D.O.C., from his 1989 debut album, No One Can Do It Better.

For those that don't know The D.O.C. was a rapper from Dallas, Texas and appeared on N.W.A's classic Straight Outta Compton. He released his debut album in summer of 1989, its was completely produced by the Legend himself Dr. Dre, the albums recieved massive critical sucess, Allmusic describes it as "an early landmark of West Coast Rap" as well as "an undeniable masterpiece".

Anyway after a car accident soon after his first album which damaged his vocal chords led to pretty much the end of his career.

Black on Both Sides is an alternative rap album by Mos Def, released on October 12, 1999. Intended as a return to the roots of hip hop, the album was hailed as a classic soon after its release, and went on to ship Gold in sales. The album's blend of socio-political rhymes with jazz and other unusual sources of samples endeared Mos Def to listeners uninterested in gangsta rap.

In keeping with his goal of restoring hip-hop's sociopolitical consciousness, Def's lyrics are as intelligent and thoughtfully crafted as one would expect, but he doesn't stop there — he sings quite passably on several tracks, plays live instruments on others (including bass, drums, congas, vibraphone, and keyboards), and even collaborates on a string arrangement. The movie is about a group of heroin addicts in late 1980s Edinburgh and their passage through life. It stars Ewan McGregor as Mark Renton, Ewen Bremner as Spud, Jonny Lee Miller as Sick Boy, Kevin McKidd as Tommy, Robert Carlyle as Begbie and Kelly Macdonald as Dianne. Author Irvine Welsh also has a brief appearance as hapless drug dealer Mikey Forrester.

much of its initial success was due to the cult audience that Paul's Boutique cultivated in the years since its initial flop release, a group of fans whose minds were so thoroughly blown by that record, they couldn't wait to see what came next, and this helped the record debut in the Top Ten upon its April 1992 release.
This audience, perhaps somewhat unsurprisingly, was a collegiate Gen-X audience raised on Licensed to Ill and ready for the Beastie Boys to guide them through college. As it happened, the Beasties had repositioned themselves as a lo-fi, alt-rock groove band.

In contrast to their previous album, Paul's Boutique, the Boys returned stylistically to their punk rock roots on Check Your Head, playing their own instruments.

Wild Style was the first hip hop motion picture. Released independently in 1982 by First Run Features and later re-released for home video by Rhino Home Video, the movie featured Fab Five Freddy, Lee Quinones, the Rock Steady Crew, The Cold Crush Brothers, Patti Astor, Sandra Fabara and Grandmaster Flash. The protagonist is the legendary New York graffiti artist "Lee" George Quinones as "Zoro". The film has received a large cult following over the years after its initial release.

Highly regarded hip-hop albums such as Illmatic by Nas, Black Sunday by Cypress Hill and Check Your Head by Beastie Boys have featured samples from Wildstyle. Significantly, the MTA allowed director Charlie Ahearn to film in the actual train yards in New York City. I
n 2007, the VH1 Hip Hop Honors paid tribute to Wild Style in recognition of its influence upon the culture. The "Wild Style" logo on the film's cover was a massive mural painted on a wall by Zephyr, Revolt and Sharp.

Stylistically, Premier's beats, while maintaining the signature two-measure loop and scratched chorus formula, expand their range of samples. Not only does he use more orchestral (ie, less funk/soul-based) horns and strings, but he also features more atonal, non-melodic samples, a style he'd first explored on Jeru the Damaja's The Sun Rises in the East. Guru also grows somewhat on the album; he focuses more openly on social issues, and attempts to embrace his status, which had grown considerably during Gang Starr's hiatus to the point where many already considered him a hip hop legend. Of course, his trademark battle rhymes are also in full force on many tracks.

1996's Stakes Is High was the first album not produced by Prince Paul, with overall production credits given solely to the trio, and again, was met with mixed results and poor sales.
The title track and first single, produced by Jay Dee, was not a hit, but second single Itsoweezee (HOT), with only Dave on vocals, did fare better due to its creative music video. The album spawned a third single 4 More featuring Zhane which failed to chart. The album did provide a launching pad for future star rapper and actor Mos Def, who appeared on the track "Big Brother Beat." The album also featured collaborations with Common (Sense), Truth Enola, and the Jazzyfatnastees.

Michael Goldwasser, who produced and arranged Radiodread:

"OK Computer has elements that are perfect [for reggae] -- strong melodies, intense dynamics and trippy soundscapes. On the other hand, it has complex time signatures, lots of chord changes and things that typically aren't found in reggae. However, the more we looked at it, the more we realized that this was an album we had to do. Radiohead has given their blessing to the tracks they've heard so far, and we are excited for them to hear the complete album."
