People Under The Stairs - Fun DMC

Celebrating a decade in the game, Los Angeles' People Under the Stairs return with Fun DMC, the 6th album by rappers/producers Thes One and Double K, and their most fully-realized album to date. With Fun DMC the guys have gone back to their roots and brought back the hardcore fun body rockin' showstoppin' boom bap! But don't let the light hearted hijinks fool you, PUTS are serious about their music and this project will surely add to their legend and legacy.

This is a breathe of fresh air in an era filled with disposable art.

Cannibal Ox - The Cold Vein

With this decade now coming to a close i have no doubt in my mind this album right here will go down in the top 5 hip hop albums of the 00's.

The Cold Vein was the first full-length album to be released on former Company Flow member El-P's newly founded Definitive Jux record label, and its release was preceded by a significant amount of hype, particularly within the hip hop community.

"You were a still born baby/Mother didn't want you, but you were still born/Boy meets world, of course his pops is gone/What you figga?/That chalky outline on the ground is a father figure?/So he steps to the next stencil, that's a hustler/Infested with money and diamond clusters."

Kings of Leon - Only By The Night

This is their new album, am really enjoying it at the moment so taught i'd share it with you.

In interviews with the band, it has been said that the next album will "rock harder" and more tracks like "Charmer", "Black Thumbnail" and "Camaro" have been suggested. "We've broadened our musical tastes in the past couple of years and feel we're ready to tackle our southern roots...again" says Jared Followill, the band's bass guitarist.

Pulp Fiction O.S.T.

Music from the Motion Picture Pulp Fiction is the soundtrack to Quentin Tarantino's 1994 film Pulp Fiction. No traditional film score was commissioned for Pulp Fiction. The film contains a mix of American rock and roll, surf music, pop and soul The soundtrack is equally untraditional, consisting of nine songs from the movie, four tracks of dialog snippets followed by a song, and three tracks of dialog alone. Six songs featured in the movie were not included in the 41-minute soundtrack.

The Soundtrack to one of my favourite films!

It features production from Erick Sermon and Redman that contains a sample from Lowell Fulson's "Tramp". Beastie Boys - Check Your Head

much of its initial success was due to the cult audience that Paul's Boutique cultivated in the years since its initial flop release, a group of fans whose minds were so thoroughly blown by that record, they couldn't wait to see what came next, and this helped the record debut in the Top Ten upon its April 1992 release.
This audience, perhaps somewhat unsurprisingly, was a collegiate Gen-X audience raised on Licensed to Ill and ready for the Beastie Boys to guide them through college. As it happened, the Beasties had repositioned themselves as a lo-fi, alt-rock groove band.

In contrast to their previous album, Paul's Boutique, the Boys returned stylistically to their punk rock roots on Check Your Head, playing their own instruments.

Whats that noise?

Following his critically acclaimed and socially conscious album What's Going On, Let's Get It On's commercial success, music and content helped establish Marvin Gaye as a sex icon. Wildstyle (Film)

Wild Style was the first hip hop motion picture. Released independently in 1982 by First Run Features and later re-released for home video by Rhino Home Video, the movie featured Fab Five Freddy, Lee Quinones, the Rock Steady Crew, The Cold Crush Brothers, Patti Astor, Sandra Fabara and Grandmaster Flash. The protagonist is the legendary New York graffiti artist "Lee" George Quinones as "Zoro". The film has received a large cult following over the years after its initial release.

Highly regarded hip-hop albums such as Illmatic by Nas, Black Sunday by Cypress Hill and Check Your Head by Beastie Boys have featured samples from Wildstyle. Significantly, the MTA allowed director Charlie Ahearn to film in the actual train yards in New York City. I
n 2007, the VH1 Hip Hop Honors paid tribute to Wild Style in recognition of its influence upon the culture. The "Wild Style" logo on the film's cover was a massive mural painted on a wall by Zephyr, Revolt and Sharp.

The Velvet Underground - The Velvet Underground & Nico

If for some odd reason you taught im only going to be posting hip hop albums on this blog, your largely mistaken. This blog is all music that hip hop heads listen to, anyway expect more rock, soul, reggae, etc.

Recorded in 1966 during Andy Warhol's Exploding Plastic Inevitable multimedia event tour, The Velvet Underground & Nico would gain notoriety for its experimentalist performance sensibilities, as well as its focus on controversial subject matter expressed in many of their songs.

Though largely ignored upon its release, it has since become one of the most influential and critically lauded rock albums in history!

Gang Starr - Moment of Truth

Dope track after dope track, dope verse after dope verse, c'mon sometimes thats all you need!

Stylistically, Premier's beats, while maintaining the signature two-measure loop and scratched chorus formula, expand their range of samples. Not only does he use more orchestral (ie, less funk/soul-based) horns and strings, but he also features more atonal, non-melodic samples, a style he'd first explored on Jeru the Damaja's The Sun Rises in the East. Guru also grows somewhat on the album; he focuses more openly on social issues, and attempts to embrace his status, which had grown considerably during Gang Starr's hiatus to the point where many already considered him a hip hop legend. Of course, his trademark battle rhymes are also in full force on many tracks.

2. Robbin Hood Theory
